about

Electropology is drawn from a series of seven nocturnal improvisations. The selections have received minimal post processing. The instrument uses electricity as a sound source. A MaxMSP patch is used to capture the sound into one of two looping audio buffers at the users discretion. Running in parallel to this software is a feedback loop with an 128 band analog equalizer. The equalizer enables control of the frequency content of the sound, while the two software audio loops may be manipulated in duration in order to control the content. This large degree of flexibility creates a precarious situation that can erupt at any moment. By controlling the amplitude, managing the frequency content as well as adjusting the buffer lengths and deciding where and when to record the user has a wide range of parameters with which to explore the 60 cycle alternating current that the wall socket so dutifully provides. Electropology represents reports from explorations through the sonic topology of the electricity as it streamed from the outlet, several nights, in July, in California.
